State Surgeon General Ana Viamonte-Ros and Mary
Redfearn, ARNP
share a moment with a visitor at the Health Department Orange Park clinic.
As part of her "3P's for Health" tour,
State Surgeon General Ana M. Viamonte Ros visited with the staff of the Clay
County Health Department. During her January 30th visit, Dr.
Viamonte Ros toured the health department buildings and visited with staff
and clients.
Her message of PREVENTION, PREPAREDNESS
AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY supports the mission of the health department.
Staff found her to be knowledgeable, personable and dedicated to the
importance of a strong public health system in Florida and in Clay County.
After the facilities tour, Dr. Viamonte
Ros met with senior managers of the health department, where discussions
centered on local program access to dental, obstetric and other health
services for the uninsured. Managers emphasized the strong relationship
between the health department and the county board as well as several
community partners. They provided an overview of Health Department
business practices, including facility needs and staff development. Also discussed were the possible effects
of state revenue shortfalls, tax reform and Medicaid reform on the health
department services and the residents of Clay County.
The Surgeon General's visit marked the
first visit of a high-ranking public health official to the Clay County
Health Department in several years.
